Benefis nurse Kayla VanderKooy on Wednesday gave Great Falls resident Tanya Schaefer the 10,000th vaccine administered at the Cascade County Community COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic.
For Schaefer, 61, the shot means protecting not only herself but especially her mother, her friends, her community and beyond.
“Our country will be safer. My mother will be safer,” she said. “I couldn’t afford to bring it to her. She would have never survived COVID.”
A celebration Wednesday, March 3, to mark the 10,000th shot honored the staff and volunteers who have shown up day after day to bring Montana one step closer to normal.
The clinic at Montana ExpoPark is a joint effort among Benefis Health System, the Cascade City-County Health Department, Alluvion Health, and the Great Falls Clinic.
