Asian Americans are tired of staying quiet and allies are stepping up to support them.
The event took place outside Troy City Hall, off of Big Beaver Road. About 100 people joined in from 2-5 p.m., said Ceena Vang, co-founder of WWN, and nearly 80 were still visible there, in the rain, as it drew to a close. Troy is the city I was born and raised in, Vang said. It is predominantly Asian-occupied. But even though that is a fact, there s still a lot of discrimination that happens here where Asians feel like outsiders.
Troy, Oakland County s largest city, has an Asian American population of 26%, according to 2019 census estimates.
