In the trial of a man accused of a heinous crime. Joe lopez is charged with first degree murder and child endangerment causing death. Prosecutors say lopez assaulted his girlfriends daughter in november of 2014. The 1 year fracture and broken ribs. The little girl later died at the hospital. He says she fell from her high chair. But prosecutors say her injuries arent consistent with an accident. In waukee, the first man accused of murder in forty years appeared in court today. Brendan mcguinness appeared at his Pretrial Hearing in Dallas County this morning. Police say he shot and killed a man in the driveway of the mans home back in november. Mcguiness has pleaded not guilty. His trial is scheduled to begin february first. Fort dodge police are investigating an incident that had two victims held at gunpoint. Jason ferguson Altoona Police Department Authorities say the pit is about have a trench wall in place to brace the sides of the trench altoonas fire and rescue team does not have a team that specializes in trench rescues which is why the des moines techinicial rescue crew is helping with the recovery. Authorities say this wont be an easy task the cold weather is playing a big factor. But also getting the structure in place within the trench is difficult. Crews are having to fight back crumbling mud and clay and keep in mind their own safety. The victims name is not being released until all family members are notified. Crews responded to the fire at sho manor apartments around four thirty this morning in dewitt. All eight apartments were damaged. Police officers went safely.
