VIENTIANE, LAO PDR Continuing the United States’ ongoing support the Lao government’s objective of making the Lao PDR a rule of law state, the Lao Bar Association opened the first Legal Aid Clinic, supported by the United States, during a ceremony at the Vientiane Province Lao Bar Association Office. Minister of Justice Xaysi Santivong and Vice Governor of Vientiane Province Bounsone Phetlavan joined U.S. Ambassador Peter M. Haymond for the ceremony, which was attended by more than 80 representatives from the Lao Bar Association, along with officials of the Ministry of Justice, lawyers, and development partners.

U.S. Provides More Than USD$1 Million in Vehicles, Equipment to the Lao National Unexploded Ordnance Program U.S. Embassy in Laos VIENTIANE, LAO PDR The United States contributed 16 new 4×4 vehicles and 134 UXO detectors, worth more than USD$1 million at a handover ceremony held at the UXO Lao Training Center in Vientiane on January 19, 2021. U.S. Ambassador to Lao PDR Dr. Peter M. Haymond was joined at the event by Deputy Minister of Labor & Social Welfare Padeumphone Sonthany; National Regulatory Authority for the UXO/Mine Action Sector (NRA) Director General Chomyaeng Phengthongsawat; and UXO Lao Director Bouphamith Somvichith. The equipment will go to UXO-removal teams working in Khammouane, Savannakhet, Salavan, Attapeu, and Houaphan provinces.
