The site at Seend that Avon Needs Trees wants to purchase BRISTOL-based reforestation charity Avon Needs Trees has been given a £1,000 donation from the Amazon fulfilment centre in Avonmouth. The donation will go towards the charity’s plan to raise £175,000 to purchase 19 acres of land at Seend before Spring 2021 to plant thousands of trees and improve the biodiversity. Nikki Jones, from Avon Needs Trees, said: “Almost all of Avon’s woodland has disappeared. This is disastrous for many reasons but mainly because trees are essential for combating climate change. This donation will help us work towards a greener future.” The charity has embarked on a 20-year mission to create permanent woodland in the catchment of the River Avon and has already planted thousands of trees at Hazeland near Calne.

Bath-based illustrator Hannah Sackett created the booklet. “I think that Avon Needs Trees are doing brilliant work,” said Hannah. “Planting trees and restoring woodland is incredibly important. I loved working on the booklet, and I’m very happy that it’s helping ANT’s fundraising.” The booklet is printed on recycled paper using high quality vegetable inks. “I teach primary school children in the Chippenham and Calne area,” says John Chew, Trustee of Avon Needs Trees. “I’ll be using this booklet in my classes. It really is a work of art! We’re truly grateful to Hannah for her work on this.”
