More than $700,000 has been funneled into Central Mass. cultural nonprofit organizations as part of a $10-million funding package disbursed to 183 groups across the state through the Massachusetts Cultural Council and Executive Office of Housing & Economic Development, the groups announced on Thursday.
The grant program attracted more than $30.2 million in requests from 424 different applicants, according to the Mass. Cultural Council, making the process quite competitive.
“The commonwealth’s cultural institutions make significant contributions to our economy by driving local commerce and employing a specialized workforce, while also preserving and fostering key components that make Massachusetts unique,” said Housing & Economic Development Secretary Mike Kennealy, in a statement.

NATICK The Foundation for MetroWest, a community foundation serving 33 cities and towns of MetroWest, recently announced it has awarded grants totaling $150,000 to nine arts and culture nonprofits serving the region. The Center for Arts in Natick received $15,000.
The 2020 Arts and Culture Grant Program resulted in the largest sum ever awarded by the foundation to arts and cultural institutions in a single year. The grants of up to $25,000 each are intended for general operating support, program support and capacity building efforts, enabling each nonprofit to pursue opportunities that will help improve the quality of life across MetroWest.
