South Kingshighway's premiere watering hole is nestled in a strip mall. Keeton's Double Play, known as one of the best karaoke bars in town, boasts five nights of singing and rabble rousing every week. As you let the songs ease your heart after a long day, the fully stocked bar will help you kick into high gear faster than you can say "Let's Go Blues!" A plethora of flatscreens televise every sport known to man, while dart boards and Big Buck Hunter let you join in on the fun. Featuring a large seating area with picnic-style tables and benches, Keeton's specializes in bar room fare, from wings to burgers to the "best steak sandwich" in town.
Garvey's Grill is a small neighborhood bar and grill located on Telegraph Road in Oakville. Highlights from their menu include their beef or chicken modiga sandwiches, featuring breaded filet medallions or a chicken breast with a white-wine lemon-butter sauce, mushrooms, St. Louis staple Provel cheese, garlic and bacon bits. You can also try the chicken modiga on one of their thin and crispy pizzas. In addition to their regular menu, they also offer daily specials such as a pulled pork sandwich or pretzel-bun sliders. Of course, a trip to Garvey's would only be half complete without sampling any of their four different types of wings.
Just a couple blocks south of where the Old Barn used to stand, or the Checkerdome as some people remember it, or the St. Louis Arena as it had been officially christened, sits the Arena Bar & Grill. This Dogtown mainstay serves traditional bar fare, such as burgers, wings, fried mushrooms and a variety of sandwiches. Patrons can also enjoy the old Blues memorabilia throughout the establishment that celebrates its past as part of a Cheltenham tradition.
Babe's just may be the holy grail of St. Louis bars. Other than exposed brick and a shiny wooden bar, this tiny south-side haunt has a decidedly no-frills atmosphere (they've got Golden Tee and, for decoration, a Heineken mirror) - but who needs accoutrements when the crowd is this colorful? Voted "Best Bar Bar" by the RFT in 2009, Babe's is an intimate neighborhood bar that draws regulars six nights a week. The stated capacity indoors is just 49, although that number doubles or even triples when the large patio is packed with people, celebrating Cardinals victories or softball team losses.
