train. and way down the end of that car you can see somebody who appears to be either trying to get out or get into the car through the roof of that train. amanda swanson sharing her story with us here at cnn about how she was asleep on the train, headed to work. she was wedged in there, and the train was moving at about 60 degree angle. she knew what was going on. she grabbed her purse and cell phone just in case she survived. amazingly enough, she survived. and she will be joining us for a live interview as well at 4:00 eastern today. such a harrowing tale. we look forward to hearing from you at 4:00 eastern. let s go now to alexandra field. what are they saying at the moment? reporter: all right. we re with rob, he s the west chester county executive here. we ve seen all morning long,
actuality it was probably like five or six seconds. i obviously don t know that for sure. but that s how it felt. it was a very slow-moving successi succession. amanda swanson. thank you very much for being with us. i hope you get the day off from work today as well. caller: oh, yeah. oh yeah. squared away. how four people were killed in that train this morning. at least 67 were hurt and rushed to hospitals. what are you hearing now about the injured? caller: we are hearing there are 12 people brought to this hospital, at least one person has a bad, open fracture on their lower leg. another person has a crushed open fracture on their elbow. one of the other serious
any physical injury in that regard, which was, i guess, just quick thinking. and then i stayed conscious the whole time with maybe a minor like second at the eventual thud impact, when the train came to a complete stop and i just kind of opened my eyes. i m not sure i was knocked unconscious or just closing my eyes really tightly hoping that i would come out of this unscathed. once i realized it was over i stood up, standing on the side on the windows, i was in the car that was directly on its side. and i stood up and i realized that i was okay and a that it was over and i immediately called 911. oh, my goodness. amanda swanson, you re okay now, is that right? did you receive any injuries? i did walk away without any physical injuries. i m sure i will be sore tomorrow, for sure. i was definitely in shock. i was one of the people that just walked away.
there were also coast guard boats out here. no one was found in the water and we re told that no one was thrown into the water. two of the train cars tipped complete lly on their sides. that s where four passengers were killed. three were thrown from the cars but ended up on land, not in the water. authorities believe that no one actually went into the harlem river or the hudson river. thank you so much. she s been out there all morning long. thank you so much for gathering that information for us. and now we go to a passenger, amanda swanson was nodding off when the train derailed. she was jolted awake as it skidded off the tracks, gravel flying into the car, through broken windows. amanda swanson joins us by phone. amanda, can you hear me? yes, i can. amanda, oh, my goodness, i cannot fathom what you went through. so take us back to that moment when you are on that train and all of a sudden this happens.
