The announcement that it will go ahead from Thursday August 12 has seen people welcome the idea as it will help give the town a much-needed financial boost. Appleby Horse Fair was cancelled last year for only the second time in its history (the first was during the 2001 foot and mouth crisis). But the leader of the travelling community, Billy Welch, hopes that most people will have been vaccinated by then, especially those most vulnerable.
