Nurse s assistant combines passions for horses, medicine

BEAVER, W.Va. (AP) Sarah Dorsey knows the importance of making a connection.
“I was diagnosed at the age of 10 with cardiomyopathy,” she said. “I’ve had to go through open heart surgeries. I have a pacemaker and a defibrillator so I’ve really been dealing with a disability from a young age.
While her classmates ran and played or joined sports teams, Dorsey watched from the sidelines.
But though she said missing out on the relationships her classmates formed was difficult, she found her own happiness on the back of a horse.

‘I was training with Justin Gelband, doing some of his classes and also one on one session, she began. He trained Taylor – and one day when I was going in for my session she had just ended hers so we met in the change rooms. There were heaps of paparazzi out the front of the gym so she wasn t in any rush and we got chatting.

GARDNER – The Paramedic Technology Program at Mount Wachusett Community College welcomed eight new practitioners to the profession during a pinning ceremony on Thursday, May 20.
This is the second class of students to graduate from MWCC’s paramedic program.
Peter H. Laitinen, Paramedic Program director, congratulated the students and recognized them for perseverance despite the interruptions to their clinical placements caused by the pandemic.
“I am so proud to call you alumni of the Mount and look forward to seeing you in the field,” Laitinen said.
MWCC President James Vander Hooven called the accomplishments of the class remarkable.
