moderate democratic senator joe manchin has said he will not support that bill. there s a bill named after the late john lewis, the voting rights advancement act that is not quite as sweeping as hr-1, but is looking to implement some of the similar changes and does have one republican senator on board, lisa murkowski. but without any of these motions moving forward with any of these bills coming into law, the jurisdiction of the justice department remains rather narrow. they still need support from congress to move forward and there s no path forward right now for democrats to get these bills over the finish line. if they can t hit the 60-vote threshold in the senate, and also not having enough support to abolish or alter the filibuster, so needing at least 60 on board to move these forward. pretty extraordinary that senator manchin said he would support the john lewis voting act. amanda goldman, thank you so much for that. we re going to have more on the
