With school starting again next month, officials at higher education institutions across Utah are working on plans to help students safely return, and this includes making vaccinations available.
Utah state law prohibits institutions from requiring vaccinations, but the schools want to make sure students have easy access to them.
Amanda DeRito, the associate vice president for strategic communications at Utah State University, said USU officials are struggling to know how many students are vaccinated and this will be the main concern going forward.

âWe know that the student age population across the nation is one of our lowest vaccinated groups so we really are going to focus on that for fall semester, DeRito said.

A Utah State University music professor who was under investigation for allegedly raping an underage student nearly 30 years ago has resigned from his position as part of an agreement with the university.
Dennis Hirst, associate professor of music, submitted his resignation from USU on June 30 as opposed to having sanctions imposed on him, USU spokesperson Amanda DeRito told the newspaper on Wednesday.
Hirst had been under a USU investigation â and working from home â since the fall of 2018, when the school learned that Jaime Caliendo, a Cache Valley resident and former USU music student, filed a civil lawsuit against him in 1st District Court.

USU spokeswoman Amanda DeRito said 22-year-old Ismael Izzy Kalani Vaifo ou, a sophomore defensive end on the Aggies football team, is still a student at the school. She added that any time a student gets charged with criminal behavior, the school goes through a formal process to decide whether that student is a threat to others on campus.
