Police believe they have found the mother of a newborn baby found dead in a private garden in Somerset.
The baby boy’s body was found by a member of the public in Victoria Quadrant, in the seaside town of Weston-super-Mare.
Avon and Somerset Constabulary had issued an urgent appeal for information after being called to the incident shortly before 9am on Saturday.
The force said at the time it was treating the child’s death as unexplained.
The mother has since been taken to hospital.
Announcing the development, detective chief inspector Mike Buck said: “Earlier today we issued an appeal to locate the mother of a newborn baby, whose body was found in a private garden in Weston-super-Mare on Saturday morning.
