Revamping Aba s Infrastructural Road Deficit

Emmanuel Ugwu-Nwogo writes that the Abia State government has begun a total revamp of the yawning infrastructural deficit in Aba, which includes the construction of the once impassable Osusu Road that has caused untold hardship on motorists and residents alike, with the facelift extending to adjoining streets of Ebenma, First Avenue and Egege/Ama Ohafia, all in the Ogbor Hill axis As the scissors in the right hand of the Papal Nuncio, Most Rev Fortunatus Nwachukwu snapped at the ribbon, residents of Osusu road Aba watched in awe and jubilation at what to them was a spectacle. The dilapidated abandoned Osusu road has become a new road. Residents had resigned to fate after waiting in vain for previous administrations in Abia to fix the collapsed road.

Pope commissions Aba roads after 26 years of disrepair

Residents Ogbor Hill Aba, yesterday, rejoiced over the rehabilitation of Ebenma, First Avenue and Egege/Ama Ohafia roads within Egege Layout in Aba North Council of Abia State. Their commissioning was performed by representative of the Catholic pontiff and Apostolic Nuncio (Head of Diplomatic Missions) to Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Antigua and Barbuda, Antilles, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Suriname, Most Reverend Fortunatus Nwachukwu. He prayed for longevity of the highways and lauded the deployment of right technology for their reconstruction. x In his remarks, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu said the roads, which had been dilapidated for 26 years, were re-built to last 40 years owing to use of rigged pavement and asphalt.

By Emmanuel Ugwu Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, yesterday inaugurated multiple road projects in the commercial city of Aba, warning that it’s a crime against the people in the state for his government to build low quality roads that would not be durable. Speaking at the inauguration of Osusu Road in Aba, Ikpeazu noted that he had made it a point of duty to build high quality roads with minimum life span of 30 years. He stated that most of the roads in Aba had been abandoned for more than 25 years, hence, it was imperative to employ rigid and appropriate technology in the rehabilitation of the roads that would benefit next generations.

Ikpeazu made this known in a series of tweets via his official Twitter handle on Sunday. According to him, ”Those who know the city will certainly applaud the solid work his administration have done using a combination of rigid and flexible pavement technology to deliver roads with good drains on both sides that are seamlessly connected to Aba River. “In our continuing bid to totally reclaim Aba through the delivery of top class road infrastructure and development of SMEs in the state’s commercial nerve centre, we have completed work on Milverton, Ojike and Eziukwu roads. Those who know the city will certainly applaud the solid work we have done within that cluster using a combination of rigid and flexible pavement technology to deliver roads with good drains on both sides that are seamlessly connected to Aba River.
