Alyeska Pipeline wins wildlife award

On July 21, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recognized Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. with an Outstanding Partner Award for contributions made by Alyeska to the conservation of natural resources in Alaska, where it operates the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System, or TAPS.
The award recognizes employees recent work with USFWS to update and implement wildlife protection guidelines for oil spills, and their continuing commitment to protecting wildlife during all Alyeska activities.
We are humbled and honored to be recognized with this environmental award from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, said Alyeska President Brigham McCown. Our people are innovative, collaborative, and at the top of their game. Environmental stewardship is a team effort and a responsibility we take very seriously.

Edwin Penttinen
Edwin Arnold Penttinen, 81, passed away peacefully on Good Friday, April 2, 2021, in New Hope, MN. Ed was born in Becker County, Shell Lake Twp to William and Mary (Anderson) Penttinen at their small farm. Ed grew up there and went to country school Dist# 82, and graduated from High School in Frazee, MN, in 1956. Shortly after graduation he worked in the Twin Cities and then worked as a merchant marine on the Great Lakes doing iron ore shipping.
In 1958, Ed went to Alaska to join his friends, Robert and Art Latto. He went on to meet many interesting characters including, Walter Bulwinkle and Anti Havisto, and relocated to Fairbanks, AK. In 1968, he went to California and trained for under-water welding and qualified to weld up to depths of 180 feet. During the years of 1968 to 1974, he returned to Minneapolis to work as an iron worker and welder on larger projects including the IDS Center, Multi Foods Tower, and the Becker Power Plant. 1. Why are you running for mayor? I believe politics and this mayoral race is dominated by hyperpartisanship. I represent the majority of citizens, not just a clone of past conservative or liberal mayors that continue to steer our city to one extreme or the other for the purposes of their small donor base. My family has a long history of service through elected office and political activities. It is one of the ways that we have chosen to give back to the community, by offering our time and service in the interests of the vast majority of citizens. I will not pander to interests for money or power. I am a man of the people. That is a promise.
