An English oak planted in the cemetery at the corner of Juliana and John streets was dedicated on Arbor Day as part of Bedford Countyâs ongoing 250th anniversary celebrations.
Larry Smith, one of the leading organizers for the sestercentennial celebrations this year, said the English oak, sometimes called the Royal Tree, was selected as a nod to the countryâs English roots.
âSo many people forget the fact that we were English up until 1775,â Smith said.
The tree was donated by Bob Way of Bedford in honor of his late wife, Alyce Way, and came from Greenawaltâs Nursery in Snake Spring Township.
