POMONA (CNS) - A motorist who allegedly fled from police during a traffic stop in Pomona and crashed into another vehicle, killing the driver, was expected to be arraigned today on murder and other charges.
Eli Richard Machado Lopez, 22, of Pomona, is facing charges of second-degree murder, evading causing death, hit-and-run causing serious bodily injury and unlawful taking of a vehicle in connection with the crash that occurred around 4 p.m. Wednesday near San Antonio Avenue and Philadelphia Street.
Rolando Pinto-Mendez, 26, of Pomona died at the scene, according to the coroner s office.
Aly Mejia of the Pomona Police Department said an officer attempted to pull over the suspect for a vehicle code violation at San Antonio Avenue and Ninth Street, and the driver failed to stop.

POMONA, Calif - A suspect fleeing from a traffic stop in Pomona crashed into another vehicle, killing the driver, before taking off on foot, according to police.
The crash occurred near the intersection of San Antonio Avenue and Philadelphia Street, near Ann Arbor Avenue.
An officer attempted to pull over a vehicle for a code violation at Ninth Avenue and San Antonio just before 4 p.m. when the driver failed to stop,
police said.
The officer pursued the driver briefly with the car s police lights on before the driver crashed into another vehicle at Philadelphia Street, said Aly Mejia, spokeswoman for the Pomona Police Department.
A 26-year-old man in another car was killed in the crash.

Eli Richard Machado Lopez, 22, of Pomona was booked on suspicion of murder following the crash, which occurred about 4 p.m. Wednesday near San Antonio Avenue and Philadelphia Street, said Aly Mejia of the Pomona Police Department.
Rolando Pinto-Mendez, 26, of Pomona died at the scene, according to the coroner s office.

The crash took place near the intersection of San Antonio Avenue and Philadelphia Street, near Ann Arbor Avenue, said Aly Mejia, a spokeswoman for the Pomona Police Department.
