The Government’s ‘Skills for Jobs’ White Paper (published yesterday) is the Department for Education’s new blueprint for a post-16 education system it says is designed to ensure that everyone, no matter where they live or their background, can gain the skills they need to progress in work at any stage of their lives.

Oldham College principal awarded OBE in New Year 2021 Honours list Date published: 30 December 2020 Oldham College principal, Alun Francis The principal of Oldham College,  Alun Francis, has been made an OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in the Queen’s New Year 2021 Honours List. The OBE has been awarded for his services to education – including a decade of leadership at Oldham College. Alun, 55, was appointed Principal and Chief Executive in February 2010. At that time austerity had just ended hopes of a much-needed £60m capital investment from Government and – within days – snow prompted the electrics to fail: plunging a campus burdened with several dilapidated buildings into total darkness.

Oldham College spread Christmas cheer to young people impacted by Covid-19 Date published: 17 December 2020 200 gift bags ready for delivery Oldham College have teamed up with Willmott Dixon to make Christmas extra-special for 200 local young people who have been adversely affected by COVID-19. A joint campaign has seen several thousands of pounds’ worth of items donated or funded in just a matter of days and has produced a huge hoard of morale-boosting goodies. Oldham College and Willmott Dixon worked with Mahdlo Youth Zone and First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) to identify local young people who are NEET – not in education, employment or training – and who have been hit hard by recent events.
