Brunaugh, Patterson honored by Rotary Ron DeBrock, ronald.debrock@thetelegraph.com FacebookTwitterEmail 5of5 ALTON Sydney Brunaugh and Jimmeilia Patterson of Alton High School have been named Students of the Month for May by the Alton Godfrey Rotary Club. Brunaugh, the daughter of Jason and Nikki Brunaugh of Alton, is a member of the National Honor Society and currently has a 4.385 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, placing her in the top five percent of the senior class. She also was named as a Silver Medallion winner. She was elected as the treasurer for Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society and also participated in Saturday Scholars and the physics club. As a freshman, she was named Student of the Year in Digital Photography.

The This year the Grandpa Gang has increased donations to area community organizations following record attendance during the 2020 holiday event, with nearly $65,000 was distributed to 53 organizations. Despite COVID-19 precautions limiting some displays last year, a record number of visitors attended Christmas Wonderland during the 2020 holiday season meaning the volunteer Grandpa Gang is able to increase its donations to local organizations.

Christner, Haegele honored by Rotary The Telegraph FacebookTwitterEmail 5of5 ALTON Alyson Haegele and Bryce Christner of Alton High School have been named the Students of the Month for April by the Alton Godfrey Rotary Club. Haegele, the daughter of Scott and Holly Haegele of Godfrey, is a member of the Alton High School National Honor Society. She currently has a 4.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale, which places her in the top 10 percent of the senior class. She has been enrolled in several honors and dual credit classes during her time at AHS. She is the starting pitcher for the softball team and was a cheerleader for the football season during her junior and senior seasons. As a freshman, she also played volleyball. Additionally, she has been a member of the Biology Club, the Physics Club and the Spanish Club.

Alton Spring Clean-up runs through April April 7, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail McGibany ALTON More than 45 organizations, businesses and clubs plan to pick up litter in their adopted areas during Alton’s Spring City-Wide Litter Clean-Up this month. The community is invited to pitch in on the effort to clean up Alton streets. Volunteers can simply pick up litter in their neighborhood and deposit it in their own trash and recycle bins. Bags and gloves provided by Madison County and safety vests provided by Granny’s Uniforms Work Fashions & More will be available all month at Jacoby Arts Center, 627 E. Broadway 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, as well as Maeva’s Coffee at 1320 Milton Road 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Five seek three trustee seats in Godfrey Dylan Suttles, dylan.suttles@thetelegraph.com FacebookTwitterEmail GODFREY On April 6, voters in Godfrey will choose between five candidates for three trustee positions. Incumbents Jeff Weber and Nathan Schrumpf are challenged by Sarah Woodman, Rick Lauschke and James Ward. Weber, who grew up in Godfrey, is a graduate from Alton High School and the University of Missouri. He also served was an Army officer. He previously has been president of the Alton School Board, chairman of the Godfrey Planning and Zoning Commission and chairman of the Godfrey Sewer Department. Weber said he has the skills to maintain the status of trustee for Godfrey.
