Loranne Ausley is the longest-serving woman from Leon County in both the Florida House and Senate and the first woman to serve as both an elected Representative and a Senator.

Dr. Argatha Gilmore began her career at the Tallahassee Police Department as a patrol officer. In 1999, she became the first Black woman to achieve the rank of captain.
