WASHINGTON - A federal appellate court on Thursday scrapped a Trump administration rule that eased limits on carbon dioxide emissions from coal and natural gas-fired power plants, and it effectively revived the Obama administration s tougher Clean Power Plan.
In sweeping away the Trump administration s regulation, dubbed the Affordable Clean Energy rule, the decision by the District of Columbia Court of Appeals raised hopes among environmental groups that the Biden administration may be able to replace some Trump administration rules more easily than it anticipated. Today s decision is the perfect Inauguration Day present for America, said Ben Levitan, a senior attorney at the Environmental Defense Fund. It confirms that the Trump administration s dubious attempt to get rid of common-sense limits on climate pollution from power plants was illegal.
