The racy new Netflix series “Bridgerton,” out on Christmas Day, which was adapted from Julia Quinn’s best-selling historical romance novels, immerses viewers in the decadent lives and loves of London’s early-1800s aristocracy. Yet, under all of the escapist romanticism heartthrob romantic leads and exquisite costumes the series’ showrunner, Chris Van Dusen, knows you’ll probably be thinking about how many things young women were sorely lacking in the early 19th century.
