Alok Kansal - General Manager of Western Railway interacted with the representatives of print & electronic media of Mumbai Division through a virtual press conference recently and addressed on various issues related to running of additional trains for the convenience of long-distance train passengers, compliance of COVID â 19 protocols at stations & trains, security measures for crowd management, COVID vaccination drive for the railway employees, etc. GM Alok Kansal at the outset informed that, presently Western Railway is running 266 long distance trains which were run in the pre COVID period. At a time when the second wave of COVID-19 has led to shortage of beds across the city, the Covid Care Coaches built by the Indian Railways are lying unused. There are over 450 coaches with oxygen that can cater to 11,000-plus patients that lie unused. The Maharashtra government hasnât directed the Railways on its need, while the Railways are waiting for directions to be given.
In view of the pandemic, the Indian Railways had converted 892 coaches on Central and Western Railways into Covid Care Centers. Almost a year later, the railway authorities have simply parked these coaches in railway sidings or also reconverted into regular Sleeper coaches after Railway Board directed them to, last year.

Vadodara: In a bid to facilitate direct movement and reduction of detention time of trains, Western Railway (WR) has carried out remodelling of Vadodara yard. The project was termed as “super critical projects” of the Indian Railways as the Vadodara yard lies just on the north of city on the busy Delhi-Mumbai route.
The remodelled Vadodara yard will help in segregating rail traffic of Ahmedabad and Ratlam sides. “On March 13, the non-interlocking work was successfully completed and Vadodara yard electronic interlocking was commissioned,” said Sumit Thakur, WR’s chief public relations officer.

Newly remodelled Vadodara yard facilitates better connectivity & seamless movement of trains
In a bid to facilitate direct movement of trains and to reduce detention time of trains, Western Railway took up the big task of remodelling Vadodara Yard and with this Centralised Electronic Interlocking has been commissioned. The project was termed as one of the âsupercritical projectsâ of the Indian Railways, since the yard lies just on the north of Vadodara on the extremely busy Delhi-Mumbai route.
