Students, teachers and community members gathered to protest the Stockton Unified School District Board of Trustees’ “lack of accountability and transparency” outside the district s offices as the board met for its afternoon meeting on Tuesday.
Starting at 5 p.m. – the same time the board’s meeting was scheduled – Stockton Unified student David Sengthay led the demonstration.
Sengthay has been a Stockton Unified student since kindergarten and now attends Stockton Early College Academy. “Tonight is about students,” he said as he and fellow classmate Khushi Pannu presented the problems they perceived and their demands.
A lack of accountability enables the Board of Trustees to do as they please and “pursue their own political agendas instead of the needs of students.”
