BERKELEY – The Cal women's basketball enters the middle leg of its three-game homestand to close out non-conference play when Cal Poly comes to Haas Pavilion on Saturday. Injury bug bites Bears again, results in postponement

Cal’s season will be put on hold yet again, as the blue and gold have failed to meet the minimum requirement of seven available scholarship players. While a similar situation occurred earlier this season due to a COVID-19 outbreak within the program, this delay is due to undisclosed injury concerns.
Cal was set to play both Oregon and Oregon State on Feb. 12 and Feb. 14, respectively. With these two games being postponed, the Bears will have had nine conference games postponed this season. The injury bug has decimated Cal’s depth this year the projected starting backcourt of sophomores Jazlen Green and Cailyn Crocker failed to touch the floor this season, and freshman guard Alma Elsnitz was lost for the year after just one game.

The key question for Cal s young women s basketball team now is this: Can the Golden Bears weather the frustration of lopsided losses and improve as the season goes on?
Cal, which starts three freshmen and two sophomores, lost to No. 11 UCLA 71-37 on Saturday afternoon at Pauley Pavilion, and the numbers were not encouraging. For the second straight game the Bears shot under 30 percent from the field and had at least 30 turnovers.
