our veterans get the care they deserve. and as commander and chief i believe that taking care of our veteran families is a sacred operation. reporter: still three members of the president s party are breaking ranks with him and urging shinseki to ten down. nick rahall up for re-election and alice grimes and michelle nun trying to win an open senate seat in georgia came out in the past couple of days and said shinseki should go. grimes said i don t understand how that trust with our veterans can be repaired if the current leadership stays in place. john fleming doesn t mince any word. he is the latest from the gop to call for shinseki s ouster. he said eric shinseki should be fired from his post as v.a. secretary. but shinseki has his defenders,
enough republicans there. and mitch mcconnell isn t running the place. that s the problem. and voters get that. and i think what s also interesting here is that voters realized it was very important in some of these races, particularly in kentucky and in georgia, to field strong statewide candidates, because the democrats in those states, republicans are pretty confident about both states. but the democrats are fielding strong candidates. there in connecticut, grimes had good name i.d. plenty of money. and the same in georgia where michelle nunn is going to be a democratic nominee, daughter of a former senator and can raise money. wait a minute, jason. you re saying that mitch mcconnell is the strongest candidate. he s only i think basically a point or two behind grimes, which basically means they re tied and he has been an incumbent for a long time. and his popularity in the state is not that great. it s not great. but he typically had tough re-election rates. he doesn t fail.
a growing number of democrats ramping up their calls for v.a. secretary, eric shinseki, to step down. this as we learn the white house was aware of the problem that the agency, as early as 2008. molly henneberg is live in washington to pick up the rest of the story. hi, molly. reporter: julie, three new democrats have come forward in the past couple days to break with the president and urge him to oust v.a. secretary eric shinseki. they re also all three in tough election races this year, and likely are trying to put some distance between themselves and president obama. west virginia democratic congressman, nick rahall, the last in the delegation, is one of them, and allison lundgren grimes, and michelle nun, trying to win an open senate seat for democrats in georgia. all want shinseki to resign. nun said in a statement
