A marine patrol officer was attempting to assist the man who then began to physically assault the officer at the 100 block of East Shoreline Drive, according to Long Beach police.
Police responded around 10:30 a.m. to the intersection of Lakewood Boulevard and East Wardlow Road after reports of a major traffic collision involving one car, LBPD spokesperson Allison Gallagher said.
By the time police got to the 3500 block of East 65th Street, the suspect had vehicle fled the area and the victim transported himself to a local hospital, LBPD spokesperson Allison Gallagher said.
Long Beach police responded just before 8 p.m. Thursday to the 200 block of East 57th Street in North Long Beach, where they found two adult victims suffering from gunshot wounds. The injuries were not fatal, LBPD spokesperson Allison Gallagher said.
The victim told police that he was in the park around 11 a.m. when two male suspects approached him and tried to rob him, which escalated into the shooting.
