37-year-old Allentown sex assault, kidnapping suspect arrested in Florida Updated Mar 15, 2021; A 37-year-old Allentown man accused of sexually assaulting and kidnapping a woman he knew has been found and arrested in Florida, authorities announced Monday. Jaime Fernandez-Maldonado is charged with kidnapping, aggravated indecent assault, theft, simple assault, and making terroristic threats. Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin and Allentown Police Chief Glenn Granitz Jr. announced Monday Fernandez-Maldonado was taken into custody in Florida. Allentown officers March 7 were called to a location at Seventh and Tilghman streets for a reported woman being held against her will by a man later identified as Fernandez-Maldonado. The victim reported when she returned home from work, she found Fernandez-Maldonado inside her apartment.

Cries of “no justice, no peace” rang throughout downtowns around the area as the Lehigh Valley’s Black community and its allies made visible the frustration and anger they’ve been feeling for generations due to oppression and aggression at the hands of law enforcement.
