Fate of Oostburg Ambulance Service to Be Decided Today

By Kelly Meyer by Kevin Zimmermann OOSTBURG, WI (WHBL) – The future of Oostburg Ambulance, which serves the southeast corner of Sheboygan County, will be in the balance when the Village Board meets today to consider disbanding the volunteer service and sign over those 911 operations to Orange Cross Ambulance. That private service is based in Sheboygan and already covers the rest of Sheboygan County. Village President Allen Wrubbel said that an ongoing volunteer shortage is making it necessary to consider the change to Orange Cross and, if approved, the operation would transition in January. But Oostburg Ambulance is hoping that the Village Board will instead put off a decision until the residents of the area have a chance to review options, and then vote on a referendum in the spring.
