Officer Areanah Preston, 24, was found dead in front of her home on 81st Street and Blackstone Avenue as she came home from work at 1.42am on Saturday morning.
A Chicago police officer described as someone "trying to make a change on this Earth" and to show "young people that policing is a profession that can make a difference in the community" was shot to death early Saturday near her home in Avalon Park on the city s South Side.
The officer was identified as Areanah Preston, 24, a graduate of Illinois State University who had worked with the Chicago Police Department for three years.
