DULUTH, Minn.– Tuesday evening on Park Point, The Center of the American Experiment held an event at the Lafayette Park Community Center, after being denied at four Duluth locations in one month because of pressure from some in the community.
The is the 17th stop in Minnesota for the “Raise Our Standards Tour” focusing on the state’s draft social studies standards, and critical race theory, especially in school systems.
A former Minnesota Congressional Candidate, and founder of TakeCharge, supports the conservative group’s mission.
“Even if there were 105 no’s, we would be here, it’s important this idea that being able to communicate and share first amendment rights, it does not stop just because you have organizations that want to prevent the citizens from hearing a message that is basic to resolve as Americans,” Kendall A. Qualls, said.

Happy birthday, Bob
Bob Dylan, among the world’s favorite artists to wonder about, turns 80 on May 24, a milestone that will be celebrated locally with a casual yard party at his childhood duplex (519 N. Third Ave. E., music by Greg Tiburzi), an episode of “Highway 61 Revisited” (at 5 p.m. on KUMD-FM 103.3 ) and a Cowboy Blue Angel concert at Earth Rider Festival Field (5-8 p.m. Superior). These events are part of the nine days of Duluth’s annual Dylan Fest, a mix of virtual and in-person jams, poetry readings and lectures.

The Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra s season finale is From Beethoven to Milhaud, a diverse showcase likened to a quilt. The program includes Milad Yousufi s Freedom, Osvaldo Golijov s ZZ s Dream, Darius Milhaud s Le Boeuf sur le Toit, Beethoven s Lenore No. 3 and Mozart s Clarinet Concerto with soloist Jennifer Gerth.
Per usual, the concerts have a limited number of in-person seats available, and they are available to stream. Duluth Homegrown is also streaming the concert concurrently on its YouTube page.
Gerth is the DSSO s principal clarinet player, and she has been with the orchestra since 1997. Visit dsso.com.
