Editorial Law enforcement officials sound alarms on state provision to eliminate gun permits Allen County Sheriff David Gladieux has a suggestion for Auburn Republican Ben Smaltz, author of the bill that would allow gun owners to carry a weapon without a permit: “Why don t you come down here and ride with some of our guys? We ll pull over some cars at 2 o clock in the morning and you can walk up to them,” the Republican sheriff said in an interview. “Those laws were put into place for a reason. Has gun violence gone down so much that they think everyone should carry?”
