Ralph Northam was at the Berglund Center Friday as teachers from the Roanoke Valley got their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine. The vaccination event was hosted by the Virginia Department of Health’s Roanoke City and Alleghany Health District in collaboration with Carilion Clinic. Around 2,000 educators and staff from Roanoke City, Roanoke County, Salem City and Botetourt County school systems were vaccinated. “I’m excited that our children get to see this and see how we’re responding,” said Amanda Gibson.

Health leader urges patience as coronavirus vaccinations continue in the Roanoke Valley The district will vaccinate hundreds of people this week Updated:  Tags:  ROANOKE, VA – Coronavirus vaccination efforts continue in the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts. The two health departments continue to receive shipments of the vaccine on a weekly basis, according to the woman who oversees both districts, Dr. Cynthia Morrow. Right now, closed vaccination clinics are happening at both the Berglund Center and the Salem Civic Center. Morrow expects to vaccinate nearly 2,000 people this week and is urging the public to be patient. Ad “It will take time. It will take patience and it will take flexibility and we really need for folks to understand that we’re all doing the very best that we can to get a limited supply of vaccine out as effectively as we can,” explained Morrow.

Local Fire-EMS personnel get COVID vaccine at Berglund center

The Virginia Department of Health held an event today to vaccinate up to 300 EMS workers from within the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts. 6 local Fire Chiefs rolled up their sleeves and got the COVID vaccine at the same time as a show of unity.  Roanoke City and County, Salem, Botetourt, Craig and Alleghany County Emergency Services workers received the first of two COVID-19 vaccine shots today outside the Berglund Center.
