New McDonald s drive-thru in Chart Road, Ashford, will spark traffic chaos

Updated: 12:06, 07 January 2021
The opening of a fourth McDonald s in Ashford will create traffic chaos on one of the town s busiest roundabouts, according to critics.
Bosses at the burger giant want to turn a plot of undeveloped land off the notoriously congested Chart Road into a 136-seater site, creating more than 65 jobs.
McDonaldâs says the site represents an âappropriate locationâ for a 24-hour restaurant
They submitted a planning application to Ashford Borough Council in September, but the project has sparked an angry backlash from concerned residents who fear the landmark âtank roundaboutâ will be unable to cope with the extra demand.

Subscriber only SOUTHERN Cross University has delayed its staff returning to campus next year due to the latest COVID-19 surge. Vice president of operations, Allan Morris, said the decision was made after the sudden COVID-19 outbreak in NSW and the unpredictable nature of the virus s spread. The planned return on Monday, January 4 has been pushed back to Monday February 1. Students are still scheduled to return at the end of February for Session 1 study. Mr Morris said campuses closed to most student classes and activities in March and most staff have been working from home. Southern Cross has always, and will continue to put the health and safety of our students and staff as our first priority, he said.
