The purchase option held by a developer planning a controversial mixed-use project in the West End on former industrial sites owned by the city has expired without being exercised.
Amsterdam Mayor Michael Cinquanti on Wednesday said support for the project faded when the developer alerted officials in late December that commercial space proposed as part of the project would need to be eliminated and replaced with apartments to secure financing.
