A Hong Kong court has convicted 14 pro-democracy activists under a national security law imposed by Beijing. The 14, including former lawmakers and activists, face life sentences. The verdict underscores the crackdown on political opposition and free speech since the law was enacted in 2020 following mass protests in 2019.
