Full tour player invitations for the 2023 GCTs edition were extended to nine players. Three players qualified by finishing 1st through 3rd in the 2022 Grand Chess Tour. The remaining 6 were invited based on a number of factors, including URS rating, FIDE rating, fighting spirit and sportsmanship. The Grand Chess Tour has announced its dates for the 2023 series. The tour will again consist of five tournaments, which will take place in Bucharest, Warsaw, Zagreb and Saint Louis with dates in May, July and November/December 2023.
The second tournament of the Grand Chess Tour 2022 will take place in Warsaw from May 17-23, and consists of a rapid and a blitz tournament. Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So and Levon Aronian head the field, Vishy Anand and Jan-Krzysztof Duda are the highest-rated wildcards. The first round of the Rapid Tournament starts 19 May, 14.00 CEST (8.00 EST, 12.00 UTC). Follow the games live and with commentary.
The Superbet Rapid & Blitz Poland will be held at the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw on May 17-23. It will feature four full tour players and six wildcard players. The field will be headed by Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So and Levon Aronian. Vishy Anand and Jan-Krzysztof Duda are the highest-rated wildcards included in the mix. The Superbet Chess Classic Romania will be held in Bucharest, Romania at the Sheraton Hotel from May 5 to May 14. It will include all nine full tour players and one wildcard player, Romanian Grandmaster Bogdan-Daniel Deac.
