Why is AEW Moving to TBS?

AEW Rampage, on Friday nights in August, and that both
AEW Dynamite will be moving from TNT to TBS beginning in January 2022. Brett Weitz, general manager of TNT, TBS and truTV, hosted a media conference call on Wednesday and was asked what prompted the move, as AEW had called TNT home since it first arrived on television in October 2019. Weitz confirmed that Turner Sports new deal with the National Hockey League played a factor in the decision. .More wrestling is a good thing, especially for the consumer. So we couldn t be more excited about having more wrestling on TBS, Weitz said. As Tony Khan said in his quote, both TBS and TNT have an incredibly storied past with wrestling, so the idea of us being able to put more AEW onto TBS was a natural fit. The obvious idea for me to able to program these networks as a portfolio gives me the latitude to put them where it makes the most sense for the consumer.
Will AEW Rampage Conflict With WWE SmackDown on Friday Nights?
AEW Rampage, the long-awaited third hour of AEW weekly programming, will arrive on Friday, Aug. 13 on TNT. But as wrestling fans are already well aware, Friday nights are currently dominated by
Friday Night SmackDown over on the FOX network. However, barring any massive overruns from the Blue Brand, Rampage will not have to run up against WWE s highest-rated show as the one-hour program doesn t start until 10 p.m. ET each week.
TNT, TBS and truTV general manager Brett Weitz confirmed in a conference call on Wednesday that Rampage s date and timeslot post-TBS jump have not been determined. Dynamite, on the other hand, will remain on Wednesday nights.

Of all the wrestlers WWE released last month, Samoa Joe stood out as one of the biggest names that another promotion might want to sign to a new contract. The Samoan Submission Machine held world championships in both Ring of Honor and Impact Wrestling before signing with WWE, and while he never reached the heights in the company fans were hoping for he did prove to be a force in the ring, on the microphone and even as a color commentator. Joe had been relegated to the Raw commentary team for nearly a full year prior his release due to an injury, and will now have to wait until mid-July before he can wrestle for another televised promotion.
