An additional 13,678 coronavirus cases were reported in Los Angeles County on Thursday, along with 148 deaths, according to Public Health. “We extend our deepest condolences to the many people across L.A. County who have lost a loved one to COVID-19. It is heartbreaking to report today nearly 150 more L.A. County residents died from COVID-19 leaving families grieving through the holiday season,” said Dr. Barbara Ferrer, Director of Public Health.

County As Hospitalizations Rise Los Angeles County has reported the highest one-day number of deaths Wednesday, with hospitalizations continuing to reach new heights. An additional 16,525 coronavirus cases were reported in Los Angeles County on Wednesday, along with 145 deaths, according to Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of the L.A. Department of Public Health (LADPH). The additional cases reported Wednesday bring the county’s cumulative total to 663,954 along with a total of 9,153 deaths since March, according to the department. L.A. County has experienced more than 1,000 COVID-19 deaths in just two weeks; on Dec. 8 the County reported 8,000 deaths. This is an average of nearly 73 COVID-19 deaths per day over the past two weeks, according to the LADPH.

‘Don’t Repeat The Same Mistakes:’ Public Health Officials Discourage Gatherings Ahead Of Holidays  Public health officials are discouraging residents to gather with those outside their household ahead of the holidays to “repeat the same mistakes” during Thanksgiving.  The average new COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles County has tripled with the number of hospitalizations once again reaching record levels on Monday, according to Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. “As we approach the holidays, we cannot repeat the same mistakes as Thanksgiving,” Ferrer said.  A Christmas and New Year’s spike on top of the current surge will bring “catastrophic results,” public health officials said on Monday.

County is experiencing the fastest acceleration of new cases than at any other time during the pandemic,” reads a statement issued by public health officials Saturday.
