ADVERTISEMENT The remains of Aliyu Zaria, the official driver of the late premier of northern region, Ahmadu Bello, was on Thursday laid to rest in Kaduna. The ceremony was completed at Unguwan Sarki cemetery after the funeral prayers led by Ahmad Gumi at the Sultan Bello’s Mosque, Kaduna. At the ceremony, the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmad Bamali, who was represented by the ‘Ciroman Zazzau’, Shehu Tijjani, prayed for the forgiveness of the shortcomings of the deceased. Mr Zaria, also known as ‘Sarkin Mota’, died on Wednesday at the age of 93 in his home in Unguwan Sarki, Kaduna after a brief illness.

Nigeria SIM card chaos as authorities extend deadline for mandatory registration By RFI © AFP - Pius Utomi Ekpei Nigerians are rushing to register their mobile phone SIM cards with the authorities, as the government extended a deadline to associate their chip with their unique National Identification Number (NIN). “Initially, the government gave telecoms provider until December to register the lines,” Garba Aliyu Zaria, a journalist with RFI s Hausa servicetold Africa Calling podcast. “But the deadline was shifted following a series of complaints from phone owners regarding extortions and all sort of discrepancies in obtaining the NIN.” The registration push has received lots of attention in the Nigerian media and the government has ordered telecommunication providers to suspend new sales of SIM cards, while existing numbers are registered. The new deadline is 6 April.
