vacation, you can be compensated? ken feinberg told congress that state law will apply. and state law says if you don t have oil on your beach, you don t get compensated. really? well, we re going to try to sort all that out. dave: another thing we don t have time to get into but i know is going to come up on the show because you have bill kristol from the weekly standard who called for michael steele to resign, the rnc chair, after his comments about the war in afghanistan. that s what people should look forward to as well on fox news sunday. you also have joe lieberman on afghanistan. so michael steele may come up, i m thinking. alisyn: you may want to extend the show an extra hour. that s okay with me. clayton: do a three hour show. we will tune it in. i have my anchorman ready go three if, four, six hours. whatever he needs. dave: ron burgundy, good to have you here. i m kind of a big deal. alisyn: that one never gets olds for me.
alisyn: it s independence day, of course. it s a time to give thanks for those who are fighting for our freedom. there is is a new project to hep recognize soldiers from all 50 states. major general and command sea world jesse andrews join us now from the third infantry division in tikrit, iraq. gentlemen, good morning. good morning. happy fourth of july, alisyn, teammates, how are you all doing today? alisyn: doing great. such a pleasure to be talking to you and all of the troops behind you. before we get to the 50 by 50 project, let s talk about the situation in iraq today as we know that the government there is still in flux and we are wondering how that s affecting your mission there. sure. it s actually going very well as far as the security goes.
dave: companies all over the country do that, okay? alisyn: people don t like sweetheart deals, particularly for big companies that are making $17 billion a quarter like bp is you know, the irs would obviously frown on any of us living and working in one place and claiming that we lived where we lived in a state where the tax rate was lower. we are not allowed to do it so why are these corporations allowed to do it. dave: this is all fair. i m not going to pull a joe barton and apologize for bp. there are thousands of small businesses that are also in the oil business that do need these tax breaks. and real quick, $280 billion, that s how much the oil industry paid in taxes from 2006 to 2008. that s billion. $280 billion. clayton: many of the loopholes that they have found in this report and that s why there is a movement in congress to roll back some of these subsidies over $20 billion in subsidies for these guys.
this as well. how was the independence cake? the independence day cake was great. broke my diet. i have to work out a little bit more tomorrow. i didn t get any of the independence day cake because i think our allies ate it all. clayton: live from baghdad david piper. what if much of what you thought about having a happy marriage and raising kids wasn t exactly true. chances are it isn t and your marriage can be doing more harm than good to your kids. i have a good idea. alisyn: dave briggs and episcopal minister to raise happy kids put your kids first and david briggs joining us now who always puts his kids first. he is a great father. but perhaps i m doing it wrong. clayton: who knows? let s find out. dave: perhaps parents have it wrong when they put their kids constantly first. why solve? it runs i think we are
what ken feinberg told congress this week what he would like to do is pay out claims not only more rapidly but much larger sums. enough to cover somebody s expenses or legitimate claims for six months at a time. we are going to go over exactly how that will happen and what is a six month lump sum payment look like and most importantly which when can people down on the gulf who have been so heavily affected by this affect to see that money. alisyn: yeah, sorry to interrupt you, major, the when is a big question because ken feinberg, is he not installed in his position down there until august? well, that is another thing we re going to try to sort out. do you have power now? when are you going to start signing these checks? and how rapidly can you and your team transition from what is now a bp operation to this independent claims facility operation? and another question we re going to try to get the answer to is let s say you live in a part of florida that has no oil on its shore but
