Around the Island art trail to return for fifth year

Inspiring pop-up exhibition features 50 artists

A SUMMER of pop-up events in Carlisle’s Historic Quarter will kick off next week with an art exhibition showcasing the work of 50 local artists. The show - named Inspire due to its proximity to the cathedral - will take place in the pop-up space run by Carlisle PR firm Intro in their Paternoster Row offices from April 26 to May 8. Cumbrian artists such as Alan Stones, Derek Eland, Rachel Gibson and Alison Critchlow are among those who will be displaying their work - as well as other artists who have never shared their art at an exhibition. It will include a wide variety of artwork in an array of different styles, from surrealism to photography, that will be available to buy.

Presence Winter Art Exhibition set to start in Carlisle

The Presence, Winter Art Exhibition, runs until December 20 at 9 Crosby Street, Carlisle. It features about 68 of the county s artists, who range from the professional to the gifted amateur. It s the brainchild of abstract artist Daniel Ibbotson, 52, who lives in the city. It follows on from a similar event, called Proseed in the Summer which displayed the work of about 40 local artists. He s kickstarted a bigger and better exhibition because he thinks that the area’s artists were not getting enough exposure to sell their work during the lockdowns. The dad-of-two, who s also a self employed painter and decorator, said: It features artists with different levels of experience and it has a very modern feel.
