Sweden has been bounced to a bronze medal match with USA.
It’s RCF versus defending champions Switzerland for the 2021 world women’s curling championship title.
Both teams finished atop the standings in the round robin, the Swiss at 12-1 and RCF at 11-2.
In their round robin tilt, the Swiss won 8-6.
In Saturday semifinal play, Switzerland’s Silvana Tirinzoni handled the U.S. team skipped by Tabitha Peterson by a 7-3 scoreline while RCF’s Alina Kovaleva upset Swden’s Anna Hasselborg by an 8-7 count.
The qualification game loss capped a mediocre week from the Canadians, who barely made the six-team playoff cut before having their medal hopes dashed. We left it all out there, said Canada third Val Sweeting. We fought hard. It wasn t the game that we wanted. We just kept trying to make shots and figure it out but it just wasn t our morning.
Sweden did not let Canada generate much offence, regularly forcing the Einarson side to settle for singles. The reigning Olympic champions were in top form, setting the early tone by making their deuces and keeping the Canadians in check.
Reigning champions Switzerland and the Russian Curling Federation will
meet in the final of the World Women's Curling Championship after
coming through their respective semi-finals in Calgary.
CALGARY The path to the playoffs was a bumpy one for Canada s Kerri Einarson at the world women s curling championship. Now that she s cleared the hurdle of making the six-team cut, she can leave her uneven 7-6 round-robin record behind and concentrate on getting to the podium. Einarson beat China s Yu Han 6-4 on Friday morning and secured a playoff spot later in the day when Germany lost to Switzerland. Einarson also secured a berth for Canada at the 2022 Olympics. It s such a relief, Einarson said. I m not going to lie. I didn t think it was going to be that stressful, but it was.
