The Gainesville Sun Education campaign needed Poor roadway design, careless and reckless operation of vehicles, and inadequate law enforcement all contribute to avoidable pedestrian and cyclist deaths and injuries. During this blame game, rarely do we read about the personal responsibility of pedestrians and bicyclists who routinely ignore traffic signals, crosswalks and rights-of-way. With the advent of the ubiquitous cell phone, social distractions have reached an all-time high. Walking and bicycling at night is loaded with additional risk. After dark, wearing a reflective item of clothing could make pedestrians/bicyclists far more visible to drivers. How many people do this?
