A chine of islands in the South Pacific that makes up a countrycalled vanuatu has taken a direct hit from a powerful cyclone with wind close to 170 miles per hour. Neighbor you havent heard of vou before but you may very well have seen it. This group of islands was one of the locations where the longrunning reality show survivor was shot. Today, the president of vanuatu says many of his people have no Running Water or communications and is asking the United Nations for help. Heres seth doane. Reporter residents tried to solvage what they could in the capital city of port vila. Many rode out the storm in emergency shelters. Cyclone pam hit this chain of islands in the South Pacific with nearly 170mileperhour wind. Early reports suggest entire villages may have been destroyed. Destruction there and that the humanitarian needs will be enormous. The storm is beginning to subside after tearing through the Pacific Island nation with sustained winds of up to 165 Miles Per Hour or 270 kilometers per hour. Unicef tells us at least six people are dead from the storm. An estimated 260,000 are in the disaster zone. It may take time to fully assess the impact since Communication Systems in many of the areas remain down. We are not yet clear on the impact and scope of the disaster.
