Time is running against Nicaraguan opposition leaders, who, after the failure of an electoral alliance, are analyzing a “political agreement” that would allow for unity with reservations.
If they do not reach a successful conclusion, the next elections will be settled in a four-way contest: the Sandinista Front, on one side; a group of collaborationist parties, on the other; and the great blue and white majority split in two: the Citizens’ Alliance with Citizens for Liberty (CxL) on one hand, and the National Coalition with the Democratic Restoration Party (PRD), on the other. Thus, this is the best scenario for the continuity of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo in power, in the context of elections under a police state and with the electoral machinery controlled by the FSLN.
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Nicaraguan presidential hopeful Cristiana Chamorro said Monday that the unity of the various opposition forces, currently fragmented, is “imperative” to defeat the country’s president Sandinista Daniel Ortega, in the general elections of next November 7.
“Unity is imperative, and that the (presidential) pre-candidates agree on the mechanism for the selection of a single candidate, as proposed by the Good Will Commission”, said in a message Chamorro Barrios, daughter of former president Violeta Barrios de Chamorro (1990-1997) and whom the Sandinista government has opened an investigation for alleged money laundering.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Nicaraguan presidential aspirant and journalist Cristiana Chamorro Barrios proposed this Friday to choose through a poll a single presidential candidate for the opposition to face Sandinista Daniel Ortega, who is seeking new reelection in the November elections.
“We are on time to put Nicaragua first and achieve unity around a single candidate, selected by all the opposition, registered and not registered, that is not important, but the legitimacy that gives us the popular consensus,” said Chamorro Barrios, daughter of former Nicaraguan President Violeta Barrios de Chamorro (1990-1997), in a statement.

“Ortega has no legitimacy, legitimacy belongs to the people. Let their voice be heard. Let’s use the national polls for that and select the candidate with the greatest popular support to win by a representative and absolute majority”, she advocated in the statement, which she titled “The people
