From being an American stand-up comedian to directing his own comedy series on Hulu called “Ramy,” Ramy Youssef has made a global impact through his stand-ups and comedy-drama series. On Friday, May 21, ASPB collaborated with the Middle Eastern Student Center to host “Live With Ramy!: A Conversation With Ramy Youssef” as part of their M.E. Week guest speaker event. Every year, the MESC spends a week celebrating Middle Eastern culture. This event allowed students to have a conversation with Youssef and get to know a bit more about his recent works.
Ali Saadat, the MESC Student Development Specialist, started off the first round of questions. Youssef mentioned his life growing up in New Jersey coming from an Egyptian family. He felt that there were some differences in terms of language. However, he is grateful for the environment he grew up in and the diversity New Jersey has to offer. Youssef also brought up

On Friday, Feb. 5, the Associated Student Programs Board (ASPB), the Middle Eastern Student Center (MESC) and the Asian Pacific Student Programs (APSP) hosted âChai Chat with Hasan Minhaj.â Minhaj is a well-known comedian, writer, actor and political commentator. He is best known for his Netflix political comedy show, âPatriot Act with Hasan Minhaj,â his comedy film, âHasan Minhaj: Homecoming Kingâ and his time as the senior correspondent on âThe Daily Show.â
Ali Saadat, a UCR alumni, was the moderator for this event. The night started with Saadat asking Minhaj a variety of questions. One topic that was brought up was Minhajâs attendance at the White House Correspondentsâ Association dinner in 2017. Minhaj revealed that when he received the invitation, he âthought it was a set up, but then [he] thought about itâ and realized âthis is the job a lot of immigrants work hard
