a search is underway in the east bay after a group of teens escape from a juvenile detention facility that s one of the top stories ahead. good afternoon. we begin with the release of two cal grads held in iran, expected this week. and there s real relief but also caution among their friends and family. ali rasmus is live to explain what needs to happen in order for the two cal grads to gain their freedom. reporter: for many them it seems an about-face for the iranian government. just last month a court sentenced shane bower and josh fattal to eight years in prison for espionage and now it appears they ll be heading home this week. a court agreed to set bail for the two hikers at $500,000 each, if they come up with the money they ll be free on thursday. iran accused the men and their friend of spying for the u.s. government after they crossed the border on eye hike. sarah shourd was released last year. all three are uc berkeley graduates. it s great. that s awesome. like
she s accused of can be an east bay nursing student, caught in a lover s triangle. why gisele esteban s court hearing never happened today. good afternoon. i m torre campbell. the court hearing for the woman accused of killing michelle le was delayed again. ali rasmus joins us live to explain what happened and some reaction from the victim s family. ali. reporter: gisele esteban was expected to appear in court today but instead a representative from the alameda county public defender s office stood before the judge, saying she was waiving her right to appear in court although he didn t explain why. someone did appear in court last week after she was arrested for the murder of michelle le. investigators believe 27-year- old esteban killed le because she blamed le for causing a break-up with her boyfriend. esteban doesn t have a lawyer yet. at her next hearing this coming monday, she ll likely be assigned an attorney from the public defender s office. she could enter a plea,
