Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly secured a 2-1 win over Zamalek in the Cairo derby on Sunday evening to close the gap on their rivals in the Egyptian Premier League.
With no defeats from 11 league matches prior, the visitors named the tried and tested in Rami Rabiaa, Amr El-Sulya, Mohamed Magdy Afsha and Mohamed Sherif in the starting line-up although first choice goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawy missed out.
Fresh from a dominant spell, the Cairo Red Devils made the breakthrough right at the midway stage when Sherif met an inviting delivery from Ayman Ashraf to apply a smart finish.
