Will President Muhammadu Buhari replace the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu, who is billed to retire today after clocking 35 years in service or extend his tenure?
The answers hung in the balance yesterday as the presidency kept mum over the fate of Adamu and his would-be successor.
Although efforts by THISDAY to know the next step in the management of the police with Adamu’s impending retirement from presidential spokespersons, Mr. Femi Adesina and Malam Garba Shehu, proved abortive, a presidency source said the situation was fluid as the president could take a decision between last night and today on the matter.

The Police Service Commission, on Thursday, announced the promotion of nine Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police and nine Deputy Commissioners of Police to Commissioners of Police while also promoting over 20,356 senior police officers.
This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja by the spokesperson of the commission, Mr Ikechukwu Ani.
According to the statement, the exercise was one of the decisions of the 11th plenary meeting of the commission held in Abuja on Wednesday, January 25th, presided over by its Chairman, Alhaji Musiliu Smith, a retired Inspector General of Police.

The Nigerian Police Force, Sokoto State Command has assured the people of Sabon Birni and Isa local government areas of its readiness to curtail insecurities in the zone.
The new Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ali Janga, stated this on Tuesday when he paid a familiarization visit to the two local governments.
He called on all the Community leaders in the two local government areas to encourage their subjects in providing apt and regular information to assist security agencies.
The Commissioner who embarked on the trip six days after resumption in the state alongside newsmen assured that he will use his experience in tackling insecurity not only in the zone but also in the entire state.
